Gangnam Breast Augmentation: ‘Breast Augmentation’ Because It Creates Breasts Prettier Than Your Own

‘What kind of breasts would look good on my body?’ ‘I want to have surgery, but I want my breasts to look natural.’
Everyone has that subtle desire for their breasts to be prettier than they are now.
Especially in today's era, unlike in the past when the focus was on increasing size, it’s now possible to enhance breasts beautifully regardless of age or current breast condition, as the emphasis is on creating a shape that considers balance with the rest of the body.
Today, I’ll talk about breast augmentation, which can be helpful to know if you’re looking to enhance your breasts. We’ll explore what breast augmentation methods are suitable for your body type, how to prepare, and how to make a decision.
I’m Dr. Kim Ju-won, the head director of Melon Plastic Surgery, your breast specialist with solutions for beauty.
Breast Augmentation | Breast Trends and the Limits of Self-Care

In the past, breast augmentation primarily focused on breast size.
Most people underwent surgery to achieve larger breasts, and medical institutions also tended to prioritize larger sizes rather than variety. What about now? Nowadays, people seek breast lines that complement their body shape and style.
The trend is to communicate and operate considering the balance between the pelvis and breasts, the volume that enhances the body line, and even the décolletage line connecting the breasts to the armpits (which we call the ‘bikini line’ at Melon). This diversification of desired outcomes is possible because the standards of beauty and ideas about care have become individualized.
So, can you maintain and manage beautiful breasts without surgery? It’s true that in an era overflowing with care methods, more meticulous care is possible than before, and it’s also true that maintaining their condition can last longer.
However, if you desire noticeable changes, there are limitations to self-care for breasts. Let me give a few examples of breast care methods. Consistent exercise can help develop breast muscles and certainly aids in maintaining elasticity. However, it has limitations in changing the fundamental size or shape of the breasts themselves.
Wearing corrective underwear or maintaining good posture are undoubtedly good ways to care for your breasts, but they cannot provide a solution for innate lines and age-related changes. This is why many choose breast augmentation. It’s because they desire beautiful breasts that are well-balanced with their body and body line, beyond just maintaining and managing their current breast condition.
Breast Augmentation | Surgical Methods Tailored to Individual Body Conditions

‘There are so many different breast augmentation methods… What’s the right one for my body?’
There are various surgical methods for breast augmentation. Which surgery is best depends on an individual’s body conditions such as body type and skin, as well as the desired direction of improvement.
A representative breast augmentation method is ‘breast enlargement surgery.’ This method involves inserting implants to change the size, shape, and breast line. If your natural shape was small, you can achieve a larger, beautiful volume, and if you only desire a slight size change, it’s possible to get a subtle enhancement.
Breast lift surgery is a procedure that positively lifts sagging or sunken breasts. If breasts have sagged due to childbirth and breastfeeding, rapid dieting, or the passage of time, the degree of sagging is assessed, and an appropriate lift is performed to revitalize breasts that have lost elasticity. Since most cases also want to improve breast shape or volume in addition to lifting, it’s usually performed simultaneously with breast enlargement surgery.
There’s also revision breast surgery. Typically, when people hear ‘revision surgery,’ they might think ‘Is there a problem?’ However, there are many cases where revision surgery is performed even without complications or issues. There are numerous reasons, such as wanting breasts that align with current trends, opting for newer implants, sagging breasts due to childbirth, or desiring a change in size with age.
Breast reconstruction is also a very important and meaningful surgery in breast augmentation. Breast reconstruction is a surgery that restores the shape of breasts, which have been disfigured due to breast cancer treatment or accidents, as much as possible within the limits of the body’s conditions. Depending on the condition of the breast tissue, whether it’s soft or firm after treatment, the design, surgery, anesthesia, and post-operative care are tailored to the individual’s specific state.
There’s also MTF surgery. MTF stands for Male to Female. This surgery is performed during gender transition from male to female, imbuing the chest with feminine aesthetics. In males, the natural skin tissue tends to be thicker and firmer than in females, requiring a design process that considers this for size and shape.
In addition to these, there are various other breast surgeries, such as breast reduction surgery to correct excessively large or large and sagging breasts into a more compact shape, male gynecomastia correction surgery to correct male breasts that protrude like female breasts, and nipple/areola correction surgery.
Breast Augmentation | My Own Checklist to Help with Surgical Decision-Making

Here are a few things to consider before deciding on breast augmentation:
First, set realistic expectations. While breast augmentation can bring significant changes, it’s not magic. After reviewing your unique body proportions, physical conditions, skin condition, and physique with your medical team, drawing a realistic picture will lead to higher satisfaction.
Second, consider your lifestyle. It’s rare for your favorite activities or preferred style to suddenly change. Since most breast augmentations are cosmetic surgeries, it’s best to choose the option that best maintains your daily life. Especially, life changes such as pregnancy plans or breastfeeding, and the nature of your profession, must be considered.
Third, choose a trustworthy medical team and communicate thoroughly. Comfortably discussing your concerns and situation, listening to the medical team’s opinions, and collaboratively finding the best method leads to successful surgical outcomes. Breast augmentation is a ‘surgical journey’ where the results must be observed for 6 months to 1 year after surgery. Meeting a medical team that aligns with you and focuses on your needs can make the surgical journey more stable.
Breast Augmentation | The Beginning and End of the Recovery Period

The recovery period after breast augmentation generally spans 6 months to 1 year, but this varies depending on individual progress. Swelling after surgery usually subsides gradually over 2 to 4 weeks.
Returning to daily life is possible within 2 to 3 days, but any activities that put a strain on the newly operated breasts, such as movements that heavily use chest muscles, exercise, saunas, and certain sleeping positions, should be avoided. Since individual responses to breast surgery vary greatly, it’s better to focus on the condition and care of your own breasts rather than comparing with others’ surgical progress.
At Melon Plastic Surgery, we meticulously oversee the recovery process through our ‘Safe and Reassuring Melon Care’ post-operative recovery program. We assist in recovery through progress management personally checked by me, the head director, and professional equipment management that shows results at each stage.
Don’t hesitate to discuss your pre-surgery concerns, questions about the surgery, or post-surgery worries with your breast specialist. Melon Plastic Surgery will be with you on your often-anxious breast journey with the best solutions.
Thank you.
